The Hastings Public Schools will have four informational meetings for the Elementary Bond Election coming up in May. Dates and locations are listed below.

South Central Nebraska Children's Chorale 20th Reunion Concert

The South Central Nebraska Children's Chorale 20th Reunion Concert will be on Saturday, April 26, 7:30 p.m.
The concert will be held at the French Memorial Chapel on the Hastings College Campus. Admission is free.

Hero Flight BBQ Fundraiser

The Buffalo County Hero Flight BBQ Fundraiser will be held on Sunday April 27th from 11 A.M to 2 P.M. at 46th St. & 2nd Ave. in Kearney.
A Hot Dog or Hamburger lunch will be provided for a free will donation.
The Hero Flight will be June 4-7, with 25 Korean War veterans and their escorts on board. All expenses are paid for the veterans, including meals, hotel rooms, flights and bus rides.

Hastings Community Theatre Presents Bittersweet Comedy "The Miss Firecracker Contest"

Hastings Community Theatre’s third presentation of the 2013-2014 season is the thoroughly delightful comedy, The Miss Firecracker Contest, an explosively funny play that demonstrates the rich lodes of humor -- and simple wisdom -- in the zany activities of small-town life.
The Miss Firecracker Contest will be performed at the theatre in Good Samaritan Village Fridays and Saturdays, April 18th to 26th and on Sunday, April 27th. PLEASE NOTE: Because of Easter, the matinee which would usually be scheduled for that Sunday is being performed, instead, on Saturday, April 19th. Evening performances are at 7:30 pm and matinees begin at 2:30 pm. Adult tickets are $15, $13 for students and seniors. HCT offers half-price ($7.50) "Student Rush" tickets for FRIDAY performances, sold ONLY at the theatre box office one hour prior to performance and subject to availability. To qualify for the special pricing, patrons must be age 18 or under OR present a valid current student ID from any college. Horizon Recovery Spring Growth Experience

Horizon Recovery & Counseling Center and The Unity Houses present the Spring New Growth Experience 2014. It will feature testimonials of clients from the past on Monday, April 28th.
Silent Auction of quilts donated by local churches quilting groups runs from 5:00-6:30pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 5th & Burlington in Hastings.

Hastings to Host First Ever Local Day of Giving

The Hastings Community Foundation will host the first-ever “Give Hastings Day” on May 1st. This 24-hour online giving event will raise funds for non-profits in the Hastings area. Donors will connect to charitable causes that they care about through a single online donation platform. The campaign will encourage people to learn more about giving opportunities in the area and take action. Physical locations will also be advertised as collection sites for donations. An online tally will encourage friendly competition between the non- profit organizations and individual donors. Prizes and bonus money will incentivize donors to visit the site throughout the day and give multiple times to a variety of causes. The mission of the Hastings Community Foundation is to support community needs through the promotion and management of charitable giving. This event will celebrate contributions of all levels. The Foundation has received matching dollars for the event from local sources and sources outside of the community. Go Big Give Day for Hall Hamilton Merrick and Howard Counties

Go Big GIVE is a 24-hour, online giving event organized by the Grand Island Community Foundation and Heartland United Way to grow philanthropy in Hall, Hamilton, Howard and Merrick counties. Matching funds and prize money will be made available to amplify charitable donations. The goal is to inspire the community to come together for 24-hours to donate as many charitable dollars as possible to support the work of local nonprofit organizations. More information at

“Fuddy Meers” to serve as final Hastings College Theatre production of the year

As its final production of the 2013-2014 academic year, the Hastings College Theatre Arts Department will offer “Fuddy Meers” by David Lindsey-Abaire. Students will perform this black comedy at 8 p.m., Thursday-Saturday, May 1-3 and at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 4 in Scott Studio Theatre (806 N. Turner Ave.)

This American play is a black comedy about an amnesiac who takes the audience on a kaleidoscopic ride as they see the world through her eyes. Follow along and experience a kidnapping, revelations, and something the New York Times calls a “dark, sweet and thoroughly engaging comedy."

The St. Michael's Altar Society's Salad Luncheon Monday May 5th 11AM-1PM at Theisen Hall (7th and Creighton).
Admission for Adults is $6. There will be a quilt rack and quilt raffle.

Hastings Downtown Do the Brew

The 4th Annual Downtown Do The Brew is on Saturday, May 3, 2014, 4 to 8pm at the Hastings City Auditorium in Downtown Hastings. Downtown “DO THE BREW” is a craft beer tasting event featuring over 100 craft beers from more than 40 different state, regional and national breweries. The purpose of the event is to bring the unique taste of craft beers to South Central Nebraska residents and raise money for the Hastings Community Arts Council. This year there will be live music by The Belairs playing a danceable mix with an authentic but eclectic bluesy-country-soul-and-rock-n-roll sound influenced by the likes of Wilson Picket, Slim Harpo, Howlin’ Wolf and Johnny Cash. Nebraska Wine and Jazz Festival

Golf Tournament to benefit Good Samaritan Society - Kearney

The 2nd annual Good Samaritan Society – Kearney Championship Series Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, May 30th at 1 p.m. at Awarii Dunes 592 S. Juniata Rural Fire Dept. Golf Scramble

The Juniata Fire Department will hold it's four man golf scramble on June 22nd at the Elks Golf Club in Hastings. The cost is $40/person and $160/team. There will be a limit of 18 teams. A meal is included in the cost.
