Lincoln Highway celebrates 100 years of service|
History buffs are celebrating the 100th birthday of the Lincoln Highway, Two groups of drivers who left from San Francisco and New York met in Kearney. The Lincoln Highway was one of the nation's first transcontinental highways. It was created with private donations and the support of communities along the route. The centennial celebration began yesterday, and it will continue today The Great Platte River Road Archway that crosses Interstate 80 put together an exhibit on the history of the highway. Police Chief Daniel Lynch announces that Archway Parkway will be closed from Avenue M to the Great Platte River Road Archway today for the Centennial Celebration of the Lincoln Highway. Visitors are encouraged to use the shuttles from the Viaero Event Center to help alleviate traffic. More than 300 cars and 5,000 people were expected to attend the events.
