Kearney Catholic Volleyball 29th in the Nation
1. Papillion-La Vista South (Papillion, Nebraska)
Final record: 41-1; Last week’s ranking: 1

The Titans won their third straight Class A title on Saturday, sweeping Omaha Marian, the fifth time this season that Papio South has defeated Marian. Kadie Rolfzen had 17 kills and Kelly Hunter added 32 assists for the Titans, who have a three-year record of 122-1. Some in Nebraska are calling the 2012 Titans the best volleyball club in the history of the state, although the Papio South teams from 2010 and 2011 may have had more depth and overall talent.

2. Lafayette (Wildwood, Missouri)
Final record: 40-0; Last week’s ranking: 2

3. Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, California)
Current record: 33-0; Last week’s ranking: 3

4. Lakeville North (Lakeville, Minnesota)
Final record: 32-1*; Last week’s ranking: 4

5. Assumption (Louisville, Kentucky)
Final record: 41-2; Last week’s ranking: 5

24. Marian (Omaha, Nebraska)
Final record: 38-5; Last week’s ranking: 24

Marian played No. 1 Papillion-LaVista South for the fifth time this season in Saturday’s Division I final. Despite 13 kills and 11 digs from Lexie Elman, the Crusaders went down to defeat for the fifth time and in straight sets. Marian is not No. 24 in the country because of five losses to the Titans, however. It is No. 24 due to being 38-0 in all other matches, including a win over Iowa 2A runner up Western Christian.

29. Kearney Catholic (Kearney, Nebraska)
Final record: 36-0; Last week’s ranking: 35

Random note: Kearney Catholic rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Columbus Scotus in the C-1 title match on Saturday. The Stars, who lost in five to Scotus in last year’s championship match, finished the season undefeated. Bailey Sokolowski and Michaeala Mestl combined for 35 kills for Kearney, offsetting a great performance from Scotus’ Payton Chohon, who had 24 kills herself.
