Marian played No. 1 Papillion-LaVista South for the fifth time this season in Saturday’s Division I final. Despite 13 kills and 11 digs from Lexie Elman, the Crusaders went down to defeat for the fifth time and in straight sets. Marian is not No. 24 in the country because of five losses to the Titans, however. It is No. 24 due to being 38-0 in all other matches, including a win over Iowa 2A runner up Western Christian.
29. Kearney Catholic (Kearney, Nebraska)
Final record: 36-0; Last week’s ranking: 35
Random note: Kearney Catholic rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Columbus Scotus in the C-1 title match on Saturday. The Stars, who lost in five to Scotus in last year’s championship match, finished the season undefeated. Bailey Sokolowski and Michaeala Mestl combined for 35 kills for Kearney, offsetting a great performance from Scotus’ Payton Chohon, who had 24 kills herself.
