Lopers 20th in Director's Cup Standings|
The Nebraska-Kearney Lopers are currently 20th in the race for the 2012-13 Division II Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup.
The Cup was developed as a join effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in up to 14 sports – seven men and seven women.
After completion of the NCAA’s fall championships, and five of the winter championships, UNK currently has scored 239.50 points. Scoring 64 points in the fall thanks to volleyball, the Lopers tallied 175.50 this winter, getting 100 in wrestling, 43.50 in women’s track and another 32 in men’s track.
Both men’s and women’s basketball championships have yet to be played; those points will be awarded in mid-April.
The Grand Valley State (Mich.) Lakers currently lead with 558.50 points; GVSU has won this award in eight of the last nine years. Ashland (Ohio) is second with 489 points with 2012 champ Grand Canyon (Ariz.) in third at 481.50 points. Among MIAA schools, Central Missouri (22nd), Missouri Southern State (28th) and Fort Hays State (40th) are in the top 50.
UNK’s best finish in the race for the Directors Cup came during the 2005-06 year (13th).
