Nebraska lawmakers begin new session|
Nebraska lawmakers will begin debating legislation for the 2014 session today. They’ll start with bills that were approved in committees but carried over from last year's session without a final vote. Sen. Les Seiler of Hastings has his eye on a few bills still to be introduced. After hearing concerns from school districts and parents with the education committee, he says senators need to focus on funding. Seiler is also concerned about Nebraska’s prison system. While no legislation has been introduced, recommendations have included building a new facility or reforming the system. The judiciary committee also discussed mental health services for inmates after release. Seiler says he plans to introduce a handful of bills, but isn’t detailing them just yet.
