UNK Looks to Make the 8-Team MIAA Tournament |
The Nebraska-Kearney women’s soccer team is picked eighth in the 2013 MIAA preseason poll.
The league’s 12-head coaches vote on the makeup of the poll. Truman State, which placed third in the conference last season, left the MIAA for the GLVC (Great Lakes Valley Conference) on July 1st.
UNK received 46 points to come in ahead of Missouri Western State, Washburn, Lindenwood and Emporia State. The Lopers tied Southwest Baptist for eighth place in 2012.
Defending league champ Central Missouri is in the top spot once again, tallying 132 points and picking up 11 of the 12 first place votes. The Lopers and Jennies tied, 1-1, last year at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field. UCM went 10-0-1 against the rest of the league.
Rounding on the top three are Central Oklahoma (121 points; one first place vote) and Northeastern State. Both the Bronchos and RiverHawks come to Kearney in mid-October.
The Lopers will hold a “Blue/Gold” scrimmage on Tuesday, September 3rd, and then start the year Friday, September 6th, at home vs. Sioux Falls.
